Scott Bessent, the United States Secretary of the Treasury, has called for immediate legislative action to pass the CLARITY crypto market structure bill. He argues that the bill's approval would restore investor confidence and mitigate volatility during a period of economic uncertainty. "Clear information about the CLARITY bill would help the market feel more at ease," Bessent stated, emphasizing the need for regulatory certainty.

Political dynamics could jeopardize the bill's progress. Bessent warned that if Democrats gain control of the House, the likelihood of reaching an agreement would diminish. The Treasury Secretary aims for President Donald TRUMP to sign the bill into law by spring, ahead of potential power shifts in the 2026 midterm elections.

Industry delays have already strained the ecosystem, according to Bessent. The urgency stems from mounting pressure to provide a structured framework for digital assets, which have faced heightened scrutiny amid market sell-offs.
